If you would like to have a water feature but you very little space on a deck or patio, this idea for a deck fountain is one that you may be interested.  This project will only take a very short time to complete and less expensive if you do it yourself.

Here are the materials that you will need to start your deck fountain.  A fountain statue, tubing, pond liner, padding, submersible pump, brick or mold brick, and fish should be the only things that you will need.  Start with a clean surface then make sure the floor is level.  If the floor is off level too much, you can add some mortar to level the surface.

Next, figure what you want the shape of the pond to be and mark it on the floor.  Depending on the radius of your basin that you are going to use, you will need to use that measurement to measure from the corner to determine the outside perimeter of the pond.

If you have a wood deck, cut pre treated plywood to fit the bottom of the feature.  This will help support the weight of brick and water.

Lay about five rows of bricks around the outside of the water feature.  You should begin at the corner of the pond.  Place a pond under liner in the center of the basin.  This will protect the liner.  You can now add a fish safe pond liner on top of the underpayment.  Tighten the liner carefully by using bricks to hold down the liner to the floor.  Inside the basin, place another layer of bricks to add a stable wall for the pond.  Cut the edge off the liner that protrudes between the courses of brick.  Place another row of bricks on cross wise on top of the ends of both walls.

When you are ready to choose a statue, consider the angles you want it viewed from.  You can use bricks to put the statue on.  Once you have that done, put a submersible pump in the basin and let the power cord run out the side.  To avoid having an underwater junction box, use a pump that is a solid unit and includes a power cord and plug.

To hook the fountain up, attach the tube that rums from the pump and place it behind the pedestal.  To clean the fountain, rinse the basin with a hose and use a wet vacuum to remove the water.  One it is clean, fill the basin up with water and turn on the pump.
